Mike Huckabee
Published September 27, 2007 Uncategorized 0 CommentsTags: nanny state, paternalism, politics
You know, I like Mike Huckabee, I really do. He’s for the fair tax, which is great in my book, and he’s got some real political talent. I like that he’s lost a lot of weight on his own and seems to have less family trouble than a certain front runner. But this is enough to drive me over the edge. http://davidharsanyi.com/blog/2007/09/25/the-nanny-candidate/ We don’t need any more paternalistic politicians!
Does law school kill communication skills?

I tried to post basically what is below on a discussion forum at Slate.com, but with a little bit more legal info to back it up- Immediately they were all over me about my beliefs and knowing that certain arguments are absurd. The more I tried to explain, the more unclear they seemed to find it. It makes perfect sense in my head. Have I lost the ability to communicate with mere non-lawschool type mortals?
OK, so this Jena Six shoe thing is really bothering me
Published September 25, 2007 Uncategorized 0 CommentsSeems like everyone gets mad when they learn that the prosecutor argued that a shoe was a dangerous weapon. Turns out, a shoe is a dangerous weapon in most states, including Louisiana. (Well, actually it’s up to the jury to decide if it is a ‘dangerous weapon”, but it’s fine for the prosecutor to argue it, is my point. It’s settled law.)
If you doubt me, check out these cases: State v. Munoz, 575 So.2d 848 (La. Ct. App. 1991) and in State v. Taylor, 485 So.2d 117 (La. Ct. App. 1986)
Welcome. I’m a law student, political junkie, food lover, and feel inherently qualified to tell you my opinion on whatever comes to mind. Enjoy! (or don’t- it’s a free country)
